Train stations in Europe are often known for the poor quality of food available and inflated prices. There are close to 30 restaurants inside Milano Centrale railway station. What are your best restaurant choices to avoid a bad experience? (SEE the Milanfinally.com Google Map of Milano Centrale restaurants at the bottom of this article.)

Below, we show you the restaurants in three categories:
A) Popular and best rated
B) Safe, but nothing special
C) Try to avoid
A) Best rated and most popular restaurants inside Milano Centrale Station:
(This is the Google Streetview of #1 rated Bistrot Milano Centrale in the main commercial gallery up on the platform level of the station, with Burger King far away in the background of this view. Feel free to click and drag around inside the Google Streetview to explore inside this area of the station. You can also go to the original streetview on Google Maps.)
#1 Bistrot Milano Centrale - This is Tripadvisor's highest rated restaurant
inside Milano Centrale at 4-stars, and also the most popular with over 200 reviews. It is also the most popular on Foursquare, but rated behind Rossopomodoro on Foursquare. This is another outlet run by the large Autogrill corporation, but they say it was started in "collaboration with University of Gastronomic Sciences". Large and comfortable with extensive variety, self-service style and not expensive. One review notes it is "tucked at the back of the top level, it might be easy to miss on first glance". Here is a web article on Bistrot Centrale with lots of photos. Another big Autogrill outlet in this station, Motta Cafe, has just 2 1/2 Tripadvisor stars - most reviewers dislike that one.
(This is the Google Streetview with #2 rated Rossopomodoro on the left, Moka cafe at the top of the stairs and landing in the centre of this view, and the red sign of the #4 rated Roadhouse Grill on the right. Feel free to click and drag around inside the Google Streetview to explore inside this area of the station. You can also go to the original streetview on Google Maps.)
#2 Rossopomodoro - This is Foursquare's highest rated restaurant inside Milano Centrale station, and Tripadvisor's second highest at 3 1/2 stars. It is a branch of a large chain of Neapolitan pizza-themed restaurants, but there are no cheap fast-food prices here. It is a busy restaurant with fast service - some complain it is too fast and feel pressured to leave. You will find reviews for this train station branch on Tripadvisor and Foursquare (but Tripadvisor strangely shows the map for the Via Molino delle Armi branch, despite the address and reviews being for the Milano Centrale branch).
(Here is the #3 rated Vyta bakery/boulangerie as seen on Google Streetview, on the ground level of Milano Centrale Station, under the vast record-breaking vaulted ceiling of the main ground floor entry hall, covered in translucent glass. Feel free to click and drag around inside the Google Streetview to explore inside this area of the station. You can also go to the original streetview on Google Maps.)
#3 Vyta - This is the 3rd best rated restaurant inside Milano Centrale station on Tripadvisor.com, and tied 2nd with Bistro Centrale on Foursquare.com (in fact there are more Foursquare check-ins here than in Foursquare's 1st-rated Rossopomodoro pizzeria). It is a trendy and stylish bakery/boulangerie with coffee & wine - good variety of baked goods, salads and sandwiches - and is one of a chain of these shops in large Italian train stations. Not up on the platform level, but on ground level.
(This is the Google Streetview with #4 rated Roadhouse Grill on the right, and #2 rated Rossopomodoro in the background, here in the main commercial gallery up on the platform level of the station. Feel free to click and drag around inside the Google Streetview to explore inside this area of the station. You can also go to the original streetview on Google Maps.)
#4 Roadhouse Grill - Roadhouse Grill is Foursquare's 4th highest rated restaurant inside Milano Centrale Station; and with 3 1/2 Tripadvisor stars, it is equal 3rd with Vyta and yet has triple the number of reviews in comparison. An American cuisine grilled meat themed restaurant/steakhouse, this is a branch of an Italy-wide chain, part of a large competitor to Autogrill corp: Chef Express / Cremonini Group (other group members present in this station include Moka cafe & restaurant, and Bianca & Nero pasticceria & coffee). Keep your eyes open as they are always running special deals that can offer very reasonable prices. For example: Sunday - all-you-can-eat BBQ ribs just 10 euros, Tuesday - all gourmet sandwiches with side dish just 7 euros, Wednesday - 50% off all burgers with a side dish, Milano Centrale branch special for lunches on Monday & Friday - 14 euro grilled meat lunch.
B) Nothing special, but perhaps a safe dining bet:
A-cafe - An unremarkable cafe with snacks, this is the 5th ranked restaurant inside Milano Centrale station on Foursquare.com; but it is a potentially safe bet perhaps because it is yet another chain run by the large Autogrill corporation. (There is no page for this outlet on Tripadvisor.)
Spizzico - A kind of cafe bakery for pizza and lunch items, also run by the large Autogrill corporation. There are no reviews available for this particular outlet. The branch in Cardona Station averaged a poor two stars on Tripadvisor.
Note that Bistrot Milano Centrale (discussed further above) is the highest rated restaurant in this station, and it also is run by Autogrill. However, another big Autogrill outlet in this station, Motta Cafe, has just 2 1/2 Tripadvisor stars - most reviewers dislike it.
Moka - A cafe with snacks and light meals - a potentially safe bet perhaps because it is part of a chain run by Chef Express (Cremonini Group), a competitor to Autogrill (other group members present in this station include Roadhouse Grill next door, and Bianca & Nero pasticceria & coffee). There are no reviews available for this particular outlet.
Bianca e Nero - Pasticceria, coffee and gelato, also run by Chef Express (Cremonini Group), a competitor to Autogrill. There are no reviews available for this particular outlet.
Burger King - you know what you are getting.
McDonald's - you know what you are getting, but some items unique to Italy.
C) Bottom raters that might be avoided?
Motta cafe bar on Google Streetview inside Milano Centrale Station, at the eastern ground level entrance to the station.
Motta cafe bar - This cafe bar is at the eastern end of the ground floor. Despite supposedly having an old Milan brand name and management by the large Autogrill corporation, the Tripadvisor ratings show that the food barely scrapes past a passing mark, while everything else brings the average rating down: the price, the service and the general condition of the restaurant (and so ending with 2 1/2 Tripadvisor stars) - all of which are remarked upon by the many reviewers who complained. Motta also does not have a high rating on Foursquare, coming in at two places above McCafe!
Bar Centrale on Google Streetview inside Milano Centrale Station
Bar Centrale - This bar and restaurant is right in the central part of the main commercial gallery of the platform level. While having a Tripadvisor average rating of 2 1/2 stars which is quite low, it also has the ignominy of having the lowest fail rating on Foursquare inside Milano Centrale Station. The cashier seems to have developed a persistent reputation for rudeness and short-changing; and on Foursquare, staff rudeness seems to have carried on for years and years. And then of course there are Tripadvisor complaints about pricing and the food.
Sky Lounge Bar on Google Streetview inside Milano Centrale Station
Sky Lounge Bar - On the upper level overlooking the platforms. This makes the location its best feature at 2 stars out of 5 on Tripadvisor. Every other aspect is worse and lower than 2 stars, and so this bar only manages to scrape up an average Tripadvisor rating of 1 1/2 stars, and this is reflected in the reviews with complaints about price, service and the food. On Foursquare, Sky Lounge Bar is second from the bottom and still with a failing Foursquare average score, with the bottom position occupied by Bar Centrale.
